Presidents Report, January, 2012
Hello all As I sit down to write the first presidents message of the year, I look back and reflect on how 2011 transpired. The weather turned out to be a mixed bag; starting out in the spring extremely wet and challenging, then changing to near drought conditions. In central and eastern Manitoba water couldn't be pumped onto the course fast enough, while in western Manitoba it was some of the worst flooding in history.
As a superintendent, I know when courses use their irrigation systems to the fullest and beyond, the assistant plays a crucial role in the programing, monitoring, and repairing. Along with their daily duties, they go above and beyond, keeping the golf course as their number one priority. Without great assistants, the job as a Superintendent would not be possible.
Moving into 2012 the board of directors and committee volunteers have a busy year ahead. We are launching the new web site, preparing the second annual day planner, and we have a committee working hard on the IPM point accumulation system. The board is constantly trying to keep up or even ahead of all pesticide regulations and nutrient management plans. We are trying to further our research locally on the mobility of pesticides and fertilizers. A committee is working on the 2012 annual fall conference, which already appears to have a great line up of speakers. Greg Mitchell is sitting on the revamped CTRFwhich is now being operated by the CGSA.
These are just a few of the ongoing ventures MGSA is working on for 2012.
Remember, with three months left of winter, mother nature has control of our courses. So, no worries, save that for April.
